Filter cloth problems on vacuum belt and pressure filters
Eight failure patterns, each taken apart into cloth causes, machine causes and process causes. If the fault sits in the machine or the process, we say so — selling you a belt that cannot fix it helps nobody.

Belt Tracking
The cloth drifts to one side, wrinkles along an edge, or needs constant re-centering.
Joint / Seam Failure
The seam leaks, opens or pulls out, and vacuum drops as the joint passes the box.
Clogging / Blinding
Filtration rate falls, cake comes off wetter, and washing no longer restores the cloth.
Short Cloth Life
Belts are changed far sooner than the plant plans for, with no single obvious cause.
Edge Wear
Edges fray, frill or tear while the centre of the cloth is still sound.
Poor Cake Release
Cake sticks to the cloth, discharge is incomplete, and the scraper is doing the work.
High-Alkali Slurry
The cloth stiffens, goes brittle or loses strength in caustic and high-pH duty.
Abrasive Slurry Wear
Surface yarns wear away and the cloth thins, fastest where the slurry first lands.

A filter cloth cannot fix a filter
Non-parallel rollers, a dead tracking device, a failed vacuum seal, feed loaded to one side, wash water that is off — these show up on the cloth, but they do not start there. A new belt hides them for a while, and then the same fault comes back.

Start with the old belt
Whatever the fault turns out to be, the same facts are needed: machine brand and model, belt width and length or plate area, photos of the old cloth, the seam and both edges, the slurry, and what failed.
